False Protenoes.
Wellington, Friday. Hnzel, the theatrical agent found guilty of false pretences, was sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment; The Probation Officer reported the roan had a bad career, both in New Zealand - and other colonies. The Judge refused to admit him to probation^L_^ Sal Case of Drowning Nbw Plymouth, Friday. A sensation was caused in town this morning by the body of James Davis, ironmonger, being found in the ornamental water at the recreation ground. His olothes were in tha bathing house, and it is supposed he was attacked by cramp. Davis was chairman of the Recreation Board and presented the publio with a bridge over the lake. He was wellknown over the colony from the interest he took in sporting matters, Fatal Boating Acoiltnt Gisbobne, Friday. A boat capsized whilst landing from the Australia at Waipiro Bay. Two station bands, named Liddle. and Neilson, were drowned. The bodies have not yet been recovered.' Mr Wallace, station manager, got ashore, though in a thoroughly exhausted condition.
