MEETING OF RATEPAYERS.
A meeting of ratepayers was held in the Road Board office, Tenui, on the 11th inst., to consider the advisability of the Castlepoint Road Board handing over a sum of money to the County Council to assist iu keeping the main roads in repair in the Castlepoint Riding. Mr J. F. Maunsell occu • pied the chair. The Chairman read the notice calling the meeting and a statement of the financial position of the Board, which shewed a credit balance of £lsl. Letters were read from Messrs Beetham, Dickens, and O'Connors, assenting to the assisting the Council. After some discussion it was proposed that the Castlepoint Road Board assist the Council in keeping the main roads in repair. A good deal of dissatisfaction was expressed at the manner in which County works had been carried on in the past, and blame was attached to the Engineer for the way in which metalling had been done. Several other matters of minor importance were also discussed. Cr Groves appeared to think that the Engineer was not to blame, and that it was unfair to criticise his adminis tration in the absence of the Engineer. Councillor Maunsell read a statement shewing the amounts expended on the several roads up to tho end of March last, Several ratepayers took exception to the amounts set against the Tenui-Manawa section, and staled no work had besa done on that road for the past two years. The resolution was then put to the meeting and carried by eleven votes to nine.
