CRICKET.

The annual meeting of the Greytown Cricket Club was held in the Council Chambers on Saturday evening last, in the presence of about 20 members. Mr VV. A. Tate joupied the chair. The minutes of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed, when the eleation of the following new members was proceeded with:—Messrs H. S. Izard, S. Nicholls, J. L, Rees, T. J. Rowse, Hart Udy, and H. Wilkie. The report and balance sheet were then read. The report is as follows:
REPORT. Annual report of the Greytown Cricket Club, 1890-91. Gentlemen,—This 24th annual report of the Greytown Cricket Club which I am about to lay before you for your adoption will be a very brief one. During the last senJSn owing to various causes the Club was in the quiescent state of comparative inactivity. In consequence no matchtf were played, and therefore no averages have been taken. Your Committeee, however, believe that there is a prospect of the coming season being brighter, and more satisfactory than usual, in which the Club will not only maintain the prestige which it has already gained, but also greatly add to its reputation if. operation* *re commenced at once. The the Club financially is satisfactory, there being a credit balance in hand of £1 6s sd, whilst the Club's assets are set down as £29 16s fid. The liabilities are nil. It is with very deep regret that I refer to the vacant office of President caused by the death of Mr John Tully who always . took a lively interest id the welfare of the Club, and has filled the position for very many years. I remain, &c, H. Hawke. In the above report the Secretary refers to the death of their President, Mr John Tully, who was one of the oldest members and always took a lively interest in the welfare of the Club. His loss is deeply by the members. On the motion of Mr Rces, seconded by Mr Tate, the report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers for the ensuing season then took place and was as follows viz., President, J. P, Russell esq., J. P.; Vice-Presidents, W. C. Buohanan, esq,, M.H.R. (reelected), H. Stratton Izard, esq., the Mayor of Greytown; Seoretary and Treasurer, H. Hawke ; General Committee—Messrs W Brunton,.J Ecoleton, H Hawke, HS Izard, G Jackson, S Nicholls and Hart Udy; Captain, BNicholls; Deputy Captain, H Hawke; Match CommitteeMessrs J Ecoleton, H Hawke, S Nicholls and H Udy; Ground Committee—(same as General committee); Delegates to Reserve Committee, H Hawke and 8 Nioholls. Proposed by Mr Knell, seconded by Mr H Hawke, that application be made without delay for the use of the Reserve for cricket purposes. (Carried.) Proposed by Mr Knell, seconded by Mr Brunton, that the season be formally opened on Saturday, 10th October, 1891. {Carried). It was resolved to obtain Mr O'Connor's paddock for practices during the season, as permission had been granted. Resolved that the necessary arrangements for preparing a pitch on the Reserve be left in the hands of the Ground Committee. _ Resolved that remain blue and whitens Resclved that the subscriptions be the same as last year. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Webster for the use of the room, and a vote of thanks to the. chairman brought a very satisfactory meeting to a close.
