Wellington, Monday. The Criminal Sittings of the Supreme Court opened this morning before the Chief Justice. The calendar contains the names of sixteen persons. The offences are of an ordinary character, ■ moßtly false pretences and forgery. Judga Prendergast, jn b,is address to the Grand Jury, remarked that criminals, now seemed to direct their attention more to acts of fraud than violence. Lateb. At the Supreme Court,.Charles L. Fleming pleaded guilty to forging a cheque of £7 10a at Palmerston North, and was sentenced to 18 months; Charles XjndegreeD, forgery, pleaded guilty and was remanded till Friday for the report of the Probation Officer ; Lucy Walden, larceny, did not answer to her bail when called
