MEETING OF CREDITORS.
f > A meeting of oreditdj* 8 ' 11 of Gustav Hirsch, in the old Court Room yesterday (Thursday) afternoon. The, debtor examined on oath, stated | that the statement produced, showing liabilities £440 2s 3d, and assets nil was a correct one. The immediate cause of filing was that the bailiffs were in the house at the instance of Messrß Scoullar and Ghisholm, judgment creditors. The furniture belongs to my wife by deed of settlement, prepared eight or ten years ago. At that time was in receipt of an income and was solvent, My wile has (bo deed which you are at liberty to inspect. My wife is a creditor for £240. It was incurred within the last two years. My wife owned property near Dunedin, which she purchased for £2OO. While I was in Sydney she mortgaged the property to the Bank of New Zealand for an oyer* draft granted to me, and iu consequence she lost the property, gavy me £3O while I was in England. She was staying on a visit with Un AlexlnglU, of Dunedin, at time. 1 called at the National 1 Bank of New Zealand branch in England and asked them to cable for the amount. I received the amount. The other £lO was given me by my wite'a I trustee, Mr Hftwkimt, of PalmerstOQ
North, with her consent. I had a baggy and horse belonging to the Colonial Mutual L ; fe Association Society which was handed back to them. I have no other property what, ioever. Scoullar & Chisholm's account was a dishonored promissory note tor furniture. The furniture belongs to my wife. I purchased the furniture. When I passed through Wellington from Palmerston North on my way to Master ton, my wife save me the money to buy the furniture (£30.) Some of the things wanted were not in stock and had to be made. Some was damaged in transit on railway. I claimed for damages and whs paid £l. I was about to forward Scoullar and Chisholm the amount of their invoice when they sent me a three months p. n. for acceptance. I signed the p. n. and kept my wife's money. 1 earned from November, 1890, to June 1891, £9 J4s4d. I owe Hawkins £l2O for board and lodging for myself and wife. I gave tho bailiff every opportunity to'prevent my filing. I borrowed money to file. I have no offer to make to my creditors but shall try to get out of my position by degrees.
