ROAD BOARD.
_ The monthly meeting of the Masterton Road Board was held on Saturday. Present:—Messrs Beetham (Chairman), Wardell, McKenzie and McLeod. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The consideration of an application from Mr R. Hare for a grant of wire was held over. An application from Mr D'Arcy for repairs to the Mouth Road was ordered to stand over to the summer. Mr J. Stone waited upon the Board and complained of the overflow of the Waipoua into what is known as Meredith's swamp.—lt was resolved that the attention of the County Council be called to the matter. It was resolved that Mr John McLacblan be called upon to carry out his agreement to fence a certain road. j Mr I. Allen waited upon the Board and asked why his contract on the , Fernridge road was not passed, as it ' was completed. A certificate, signed by eleven ratepayers was, furnished, staling that they considered the work had been satisfactorily completed.—lt was resolved that the Chairman be requested to visit the contract in company with the Engineer and satisfy himself as to the merits of Mr Allen's claim.
The report of the meeting of the Finance Committee was read, and accounts amounting to £253 lis passed for payment. It was decided that a general rate of 7-lGths of a penny in the pound be struck in accordance with notice given. The Engineer's report was read and adopted. The Engineer was authorised to construct a footway in front of Mr Hessey's property on the Upper Plain Road. The offer of Mr Christinmtfc Jp give sufficient land to 'widen the approach of the Black Creek bridge,, as detailed in the Engineer's'report, was accepted. It was resolved to improve the approach to the ford at Te Whiti. The Engineer was instructed to proceed with Northcroft's road as soon 88 possible. Mr McLeod was instructed to arrange with Mr Tankersley to fall the bush on the road line through his section, and with Messrs Petersen aad Sykes for roads through their sections.
It was resolved that £4O be expended out of thirds on bushfelling and draining on the Te Maru road, and that the overseer be instructed to confer with Mr McLeod on the subject. The meeting then adjourned.
