State liattlity for Looal Loans. Timaru, August 19. The Harbour Board resolved on reading the report of the Parliament ary Committee on the New Plymouth Harbor Loan, that it would be extremely dangerous to establish a precedent that the State was in any way liable, to debentureholders for local loans'; that New Plymouth had no claim to a total exemption from harbor rates, but may have an equitable claim for restitution of the original securities.
TirriTjleAflolliat. Thambs, August 19. A terrible accident happened yesterday at the Cassel Company's .Reduction Works, at Karangahaps. The foreman of the works, Mr. James Tegart, was leaning over a cylinder containing a very' strong solution of cyanide of potassium, when he overbalanced and fell in. He was quickly removed, but died almost immediately. Mr. Tegait belonged to Glasgow, and leaves a widow.
