ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting r of the Eketahuna Eoad Board was held on Saturda.y Present—Messrs W. B. Matheson (chairman), T. Parsons, A. Anderson and P. Bowsett. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read— From Bank of New Zealand, acknowledging receipt of £209 and other moneys. From Chief Surveyor, acknowledging receipt of plan for road and Bpecial settlement Number 2 Mangaorangaranga bridge. Approved. FromPaymaster-General, re money paid in bank. From Messrs Pitcaithly (2), Nielson and Nogel, asking for loan of £4O for work on Mangaone road contract. It was resolved to take Bteps to raise the loan asked for. It vas resolved to grant Mr Goodden one day's pay for removing tree on Hawera road. It was resolved that the Board levy and make a Bpecial rate of one halfpenny in the pound on all the rateable property in the district for the year to commence Ist April, 1891, and ending 31st March, 1892. It was resolved for the securing of payment for the sum of £IOO granted to the Board, under the Local Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886, for the erection of a suspension bridge in Hawera road, that a special rate of 10/16ths of a penny in the pound be made and levied on the following sections :-l, 2, 8, 4, 5,6,10,11,12, 13, 14, 20a, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, Block 11, section 6, 7, Block 111, all in the Mangaone Survey fk district. Such a special rate shall be * an annually recurring rate and be paid in two half-yearly instalments for 20 successive years, on the Ist day of February, aud the Ist day of August in each year, until the debt is liquidated. Messrs T. Parsons and F. Dowsett were appointed to sign the roll bcok. It was resolved that the clerk write to the Minister of Lands and get a deviation through Syversen's road laid off on the maps and gazette, and that Mr King prepare the necessary plans of same. The clerk was instructed to take the necessary steps to raise a loan of £4OO for the Central East road. Mr King was instructed to have] the necessary steps taken to have culverts put in Central road, Parkville. Amount available £66, and one culvert on Sparksman's road, amount available, £22, and on Tyler's road between Bridge and Wellington Block. Amount available, £l2. It was resolved that the Board considers the "Wellington Special Settlement No 2 Block have made unjust charges against their engineer, and farther that it would be unwise to give them a Board of their own, necessitating, as it would do, general ele«tions and the expense of a clerk and engineer to do work that one are eapable of doing in a thorough manner.
