VOLUNTEERING.

An inspection parade of the Masterton Rifle Vc!!! 1^*8 was held in the Drill Hall laßt (Thursday) evening, thirty-six, rank and file, answering to the roll call. Captain Pownall was in .Command, The men were put through manual exercise and physical drill by the Captain, firing exercise by Lieut. Thompson, bayonet exeicise by Lieut. Hooper, and battalion movements by the Lon-commissioned officers. The company was inspected by Major Newall,' who complimented Captain Pownall npon the creditable manner in which the men had acquitted themselves and sta'ed that it was the most proiioient corpß in the Wairarapa.
