MEETING OF CREDITORS
Estate of John Lear. A meeting of creditors in the estate of John Lear, of Featherston, was held in the old Courtroom, Masterton, at noon to-day, the Deputy-Official Assignee (Mr W. B. Chennells) presiding. Mr Pownall appeared for the bankrupt and Mr Acheson for certain creditors. The estate showed an amount owing to unsecured creditors of £lO9 U, and the assets in the hands of the Trustee £237, leaving a surplus of £127 19s. In reply to Mr Bunny the bankrupt stated he was desirous of having the deed of assignment cancelled and the money in trust applied lor the good of the creditors. Mr Beard explaiaed that when the deed of assignment was executed he handed over £3OO to the bankrupt with which to pay his debts. He would requiie an order of the Supreme Court before he resigned his •irust. In reply to Mr Bunny the bankrupt said he did not know whether he had anything coming to him from his brother's estate. Mr Pownall said it would be a duty of the Assignee to state a case tor the next sitting of the District Court, to see if the deed could not be set aside. It was eventually decided that the Assignee take steps to test the validity of the deed vested in Mr Beard as trustee.
