INQUEST.
The Late James North
(From Our Cwn Correspondent). An inquest touching tbe death of the late James North was held at Makuri on Tuesday, before Mr John Hughes, coroner.
From the evidence it appears that North came from Masterton, where he had been working, having pre viously sent his wife and child to Wellington. He arrived in Pahiatua on Monday or Tuesday last, and started for Makuri in search of work. On the way he met a man who directed him to Wishaw's bushfelling camp. He started work on Thursday morning and all went well until Saturday morning about 11 o'clock, when he left his work (underacrubbing) unseen by his mates. He was afterwards found lying full length on the ground outside the cookhouse, with a rifle under him. On the table was found a note in which he asked Mr Wisbaw to write and tell his wife he was tired of life and could bear it no longer. The jury returned a verdict to the effect that North shot himself with a rifle, but there was no evidence to show in what state of mind he was at the time.
Immediately after the inquest the remains were interred.
