MASTERTON.—WEDNESDA Y. (Before Colonel Roberts, R.M.) SUPPORT OF A FATHER. mk - An application was made by Mr Bunny that the order recently made that Joseph Dreyer, of Auckland, should contribute the snm of fourteen shillings a week towards the support of hiß father, Alexander Dreyer, of Masterton, should be suspended or varied. Mr Beard opposed the application. The Bench stated it might be hard that one man should hare to support a whole family. It could not, however, suspend or vary the order. DRUNKENNESS AND VAGRANCY. Michael Hanratty pleaded guilty to having been drunk in a public placj yesterday, but stated he had done no harm to anybody. The Bench: Very well, proceed with the next case. The accused was then charged with having no visible lawful means of support. The accused : I plead not guilty, I have been attending to my profession in Masterton. ► Sergeant Hannan deposed: The accused has applied for money to many people in the town, and if they refused he abused them. In fact several Justices in the town have complained of his conduct. He has been wandering about the street in an half drunken state with no fixed place of abode. He has no lawful visible means of support. The accused: Will you inquire of Mr Mason if I have not been practicing my profession and sending him prescriptions every day ? Sergeant Hannan: You have not been in a fit state to practice your profession. Constables Malcolm and O'Leary gave corroborative evidence. The accused: Will you allow me to call Mr Mason and Mr Eton to prove that I have been practicing my profession here ? The Bench: I will adjourn the Court for half an hour to enable you to produce evidence. The accused'; Thank you, your Worship. On the Court resuming, T. G. Mason gave evidence to the effect that he had received certain prescriptions from the accused.
