District Oonferenoe.

The District Conference of the Knights of Labour concluded its sittings at 5.30 p.m. yesterday. Amongst other resolutions the following were carried: That whereas the present system of local rating is a direct fine on individual industry and also on capital, the Government be urgently requested to amend the present Act and exempt all improvements from local taxation. That the Government be urged to oppose Australasian Federation, on the grounds that under present conditions it would be inimical to the best interests of the industrial masses, while it would consolidate the already whelming power of capital.' That the Education Act be amended so as to abolish Education Boards and retain School Coumittees, giving them the power that the Education Boards at the present possess, and thai inspectors be under the direct super* vision of the Depirtmont. That seeing that there is a probability of the franchise being granted to women, the local assemblies be requested to admit women free to membership.

The Secretary, in his report, stated that there had been an inorease of five hundred in the membership of the Knights during the last three months The total strength in the Wellington district was now 1500. In Auokland district there had been three new looal assemblies opened, with an inorease of three hundred members in the same period of time. The order was still flourishing in all parts of the world, holding the premier position amongst kiodred organisations. The next District Assembly will be held in Woodville on January 14th,
