FOOTBALL.
Efcetahuna v. Fahiatua. The Cup match between teams representing the above Clubs was played at Eketahuna on Saturday, resulting in a win for the home team by three points to nil. The ntmost good feeling prevailed throughout the game, which was well contested. A try was obtained in the first spell by Dixon (Eketahuna), which was converted by Pelling. Mr F. 0. Turner acted as referee, Mr John Pelling as umpire for Eketahuna and Mr Godfrey as umpire for Pahiatua.
A combined practice match of the Mastarton and Star Clubs was heldon the Park Oval on Saturday.
The Red Star Football Club is making arrangements to meet the Ponekes (Wellington) at the Empire City in about three weeks' time.
The Bush Rugby Union has sent a challenge to the Wairarapa Union to play a match at an early date, but as the place for playing is not fixed, the challenge has not yet been accepted. Undoubtedly as far as gate money is concerned Masterton would be the place. Tie Albamtea OluTj. Dunedin, Monday. The Alhambra Club is now morally certain to win the championship. They have received an invitation to visit Wellington and play the premier Club there, and also play at Masterton. The invitation will most likely be accepted, and if the Club can raise the required money they would not be averse to visiting Auckland.
Te Ore Ore v. Petone,—This match was played at Petone on Saturday, and resulted in a win for the visitors by 8 points to 1. In tbe first spell W. Earaitiana' crossed the Petone line, after a vigorous rush of the Native forwards, but he was unable to place a goal, Shortly afterwards Earaitiana placed an undeniable goal from a mark obtained by Kara. Shortly before half-time Woods, alter a fine run, obtained a try for Petone, P. Jackson failing to inorease tbe score. Iu the second soell Mnki crossed the Petone line atter a dodgy run, but Earaitiaua was unsuccessful in the attempt at goal. The pick of the winners were Earaitiana, Bernini, fiasto, and fillers (captain) (backs), and Maki, Cameron, Tuhi, and Wahow (forward). Of tbe losers, Daluleish, Jackson, Wynyard and Boss (backs), and Woods, Pringle, Lomas, and Maber (forwards), were the best. Mr Manaina acted as referee, and Messrs Chatwin and S. Earaitiana umpired. The Te Ore Ore team play Otaki to-day, and Palmerston North on Wednesday.
The match between the Wellington and Ponekes resulted in a draw, neither side'being üble to score. The Wellington Championship will there fore be a certainty fer the Athletics.
The Carterton Royal Stars beat the Grey town Hard Cases by 1 point in a match played at Greytown on Satorday last.
There is a probability of the match Mastertoa v Wellington yet coming off on Saturday next. The Secretary of the Masterton Club expects a communication from the Wellington Club on the subject today.
