CORRESPONDENCE.

Orowlinff and Gnutfliiff, [to the editor.] Sib, —I am not going to attack you On the tempefance question, but rather congratulate you on your courtesy to the Master ton branch of the N.Z. Al - lia'nce, in placing a column of the Daily Tinder the heading, " The Pro- . hibitioniat," and so contributing to the edification and enlightenment of the people on the temperance question. Turning to politics, I was not a little amused and pleased with your of the Bth, picturing the jockey on the noble quadruped with the bunch of carrocs on the long poll in front, etc. Do you think the Opposition would be strong enough to defy the Government «o bring forward their revolutionary proposals in the form of Bills, and cause them to appeal to the country, aud thus there might be a fresh election, and we might have dh opportunity of" saving our bacon," by getting rid of our " Berkshire," and' wipe out, to a certain extent, the disgrace of our constituency by such a representative? To my mind, it is a scandal that . such men should call themselves " Liberals." Why they are bastard Liberals, wind bags, and Their Liberalism is a miserable caricature of the liberalism of Gladstone, John Bright, &c, &o. These labour representatives seem to be blind followers of the Premier (" Promising John" as he is called in "Wanganui), I suppose this IB the fruit of George Grey's " one man one vote " principle that we have . such a -number of " stump orators " as Garlyle would style them in the House, I don't believe in Triennial s Parliaments, but at present it is a sort of comfort that it is only for three at most we are to be misrepresented. I have not written this for publication, bat if anything suggests itself .to you from these random remarks you are quite welcome to make use of them. J am, &c, W. East Coast, July 20,1891.
