Tne Australian Position. [special.] London, July 16. Til let, in giving evidence before the Labour Commission, said he did not approve of the Unions being converted into close corporations. There are signs of the French railway strike fizzling out. Paris, July 16. The railway strike is rapidly extending. Sydney, July 17. There is little or no prospect a* present of an amicable settlement of the difficulty between the shearers and pastoralists in this colony. July 18. The Unionists are acting aggres sively at Bourke, and there is much excitement in town in consequence They cut the mooring* of the river steamer, which waß being unloaded by free labourers. Large reinforcements of police have been despatched to preserve order.
Brisbane, July 18. I The motion for the appointment of a commission to enquire into the "shearer's war" was rejected by 41 to 8.
Christchurch, July 17. The Canterbury Employers Association to-day, in compliance with the request of the Trades and Labour Council, appointed a deputation to confer with representatives of that body, in order to make united representations to the Auckland bootmakers with a view of settling the present strike.
