HOUSE of J The Speaker took the Mr Rees asked the - (1) Whether any defalcations orptol* lations have at any time been dißf covered in the Government Life Assurance Department? (2) Whether the Audit Department was aware of any defalcations having occurred; and if so, did the Auditor-General report the same to the Government or to Parliament. The Premier, in reply, said pSwhvfßßJ tions had been discovered in department, and the Audit reported that the defalcations were aa j follows :~l6b lid, £2Ol 17s 6d, £149 6s 2d, £l4 12s lid, £2 4s 6d, £& 1«, £l7 18s sd, and 17s sd. They had with oue exception been repaid, jwid chiefly consisted of peculations Of premiums returned as and were discoved shortly afteMhld. The Hon Mr Bryce asked the Premier when he intended to bring down the Bills referred to in the Financial Statement. The Premier, in reply, said he was able to inform the House thdt he would bring down the Taxation Bills on Tuesday or Wednesday next. An Imprest Supply Bill for payment of salaries, &c, for year ending 81st March, 1891, was passed through all its stages. Public Revenues Bill. The second reading of (he above Bill was agreed to on the voices, and the BUI was referred to the Public Accounts Committee. OrHER Bills. The Partnership Bill, Repeals Bill, Local Bodies Accounts and Audits Bill, and Adulteration Bill were read a second time. Criminal Code. The uriminal Code Bill was read a second time alter a lengthy discussion. : The House rose at 12.50 am.
