POULTRY SHOW.
First Day. The seventh annual show in connection with the Wairarapa Poultry, Pigeon, Canary and Dog Association was opened in the Masterton Drill Hall yesterday, when the exhibition of poultry was held. From a numerical point of view the entries were far below those of previous years. This is accounted for by the fact that a degree of personal feeling has unfortunately crept into the Association. Notwithstanding, the President, (Mr A. Walker), worked hard to prevent the total collapse of tho Association, and he is to be congratulated upon the success attending his efforts. Although the weather was not propitious, the attendance of the public, especially in the evening, was large. The principal exhibitor and prize taker was Mr Alexander Walker. The show of Spanish and Andalusian fowls was fairly good. A handsome Minorca hen was exhibited by Mr A. Walker. There were five entries in Houdans, one of which (that of Mr Walker) was a handsome bird, and a prizetaker at the last Wellington show. A buff Cochin cockerel by the same exhibitor was much admired. The partridge Cochins and Langshans were on the whole yery good. A fine Plymouth Rock cockerel was show by Mr H. Remington. The greatest competition was in Wyandottes, of which there were sixteen entries. The prize takers were a pair of splendidly marked birds. Some of the exhibits in Polands were excellent, as were also several Leghorns. In Bantams Mr Walker was the only exhibtor, and also took a couple of prizes in eilver pencilled and spangled Hamburgs. The entries of ducks and geese were not large, bat those shown were quite up to the usual standard. Mr WalKer took both prizes for turkeys, beating two birds imported from Auckland by Mr Campbell, which were mere chickens compared with the prize winners. Mr W. Hounslow exhibited a fine pair of faniail pigeons, and Miss Owen a pair of excellent crested Norwiohes. The latter also carried off first honors for canaries. A number of tame rats exhibited by Mr W. Hounslow were also prize takers. The following is the prize list: — POULTRY. Judges—Messrs W, G. King, and A. A. White. Spanish hen or pullet.—G. Bannister, 1 and 2. Andalusian cock or cockrel, —J.
