[By Telegraph] \ United Press Association.) The Child Murder Case. Chbistchcroh, Friday. Mary Jane Amos, charged with child murder, was again unable to appear at che R.M. Court, and the case was remanded till the 24th. The: inquiry has also been adjourned. The woman is still in the hospital. R M COURT. MASTERTON—FRIDA Y. (Beforj Colonel Roberts, R.M.) INFECTED SHEEP. J W Smith v Henry Vile.—Offering for sale sheep infected with Hoe. The defendant admitted the offence and was fined £1 and 6s coats. ASSAULT. H A Eobinson v A Francis.— Assault. Mr Pownall for plaintiff. Mr Beard for defendant The defendant pleaded not guilty. Mr Pownall explained the circumstances of the case. H, A. Robinson, sworn, deposed : I am a laborer residing near Masterton. lam working for the defendant. On Tuesday, the 30th June, I left the employ of Francis. On that date a man named Robinson wau having a fight with another named Brown. After they had been at it a short time Brown said he had had !4 n Francis then told Robinson tbJ||Rie did not go on he would " kick his ." Brown told Francis to mind his own business. This was in the afternoon. Francis then struck | Brown, and they bed a souffle. I then walked up to Francis and told him . that Brown had hid enough and asked him to stop. He then, knocked me down and jumped on me with bis knees. He also tore me with bis teeth. I have heard that Francis is a man who fights in public. The row between Robinson and Brown arose over some little difficulty in camp. • By Mr Beard: Francis had not a bad arm before he struck me. I cannot remember why I was not working on the day of the assault. Brown lifted a slasher to Francis, and Francis did the same. Brown and I were friends, and I stepped in when I found he had had enough. Franois was punching Brown when I went up. 1 did not jump on Francis' baok - and did not lay hands on him till he had struck me. He ran at be, but I cannot say whether he struck me. All I can say is that he knocked me down. My mates were standing alongside at the time of the fight. By Mr Pownall: I interfered because I thought Brown was being illused and had had enough. The coat produced is mine, and was torn, by Francis' teeth. By Mr Beard: I did not tear the coat on purpose. My mates notwithstanding that they saw me being eaten up, did not come to my rescue. I used no bad language towards the accused, and never challenged him to fight in Eketahnna. William Henry Brown, Freeman Bonnor, Frederick Bonnor, and ■ Frederick Lipscombe gave corroborative evidence. This finished the case for the prosecution and the Court adjourned till 2 p.m.
