The Grey town Mock Parliament sat last night, and after business of a routine nature had been put through the Women's Franchise Bill was hotly debated by both sides. On the Tote being taken there was a majority of 17 to 8 against it. The bill was accordingly thrown out. The ladies present were then asked to vote for or against it, as they thought best, and it was found that they were also against it. Formal notice from William H. Beetbam, chairman of the Masterton Eoad Board, of the favourable result of the poll taken in that district upon a proposal to raise a loan of £lt>oo under the local Bodies Loans Act, 1886, for forming Northcroft'sroad, appears in the Gazette. The residence of Mr Andrew Young, in Wellington, narrowly escaped being de« stroyed by fire last night, a linen cupboard on the top of the stairs having been discovered in flames.
A Maoii boy, William Kemp, was accidentally shot at Ahepara yesterday, by a man named John Houston, while handling a revolver. The bullet, which entered his side, has not yet been extracted.
