FOOTBALL.
[BY DIOGENES.] The Cup match between the Masterton and Te Ore Ore Clubs was played on the Worksop Road Ground on Saturday, and resulted in an easy win for Master ton by 11 points to 8. Owing to a dispute among the Natives, several of their first fifteen would not play, and therefore a great deal of the interest of the game was lost, as although Masterton played with five emergencies, they of course were too many for the Natives, C. Bannister went through the unthankful duties of referee, and Natuere and Parkinson line umpires. The Natives, considering the disadvantages, played a real bard-working game, and were near scoring several times. The Masterton team did noo hurt themselves by playing too hard, but went in principally for passing practice among the backs, and dribbling among the forwards. Watson was placed threequarter, and proved himself very reliable, his kicking and running powers being much admired. In the first spell tries were obtained for Masterton by R. Thompson, D'Arcy and Whaiman, from one of which Thompson kicked a goal, and in the second spell Holmwood, C. Perry and R. Gray scored. "D'Arcy also made a pretty pot shot from the field. The only score of the Maoris was made by Willie Karaitiana marking in front of the opposing goal, and dropping it over the bar. For the Natives, Bairstow, Remini, Dummy, Sucker, and Cameron, deserve credit for real hard grafting, while Hounslow, Day, Gray, and all the backs of Masterton were more or less conspicuous. It was acknowledged that if the Natives had put their proper team in the field they would have given Masterton a lot of trouble, and it is to be hoped they will not disappoint the public in a like manner again.
The Greytown-Red Star senior cup match being postponed on Saturday last, the latter Club had a good practice on the Oval, and some excellent form was shown by several 7 ounger members.
