Mr. W. C. Nation, of the Wairarapa Standard office, on account of the death of his wife's father, which ooourred on Saturday last, left Greytown for Nelson yesterday.
A social gathering and sale of work is to be held in St Matthew's schoolroom, on Friday, July 24th. A number of children are now in training for a bijou opera entitled "Cinderella," which is to be produced on this occasion, Messrs Lowes and lornß beg to remind pur readers of the stock sale at their yards at 1 o'olock tp*inorrow, the list for whioh comprises 930 fat and forward wethers', 800 fat and forward ewes, 100 ewes in lamb, 20 tat bullocks, 1 bupgy horse, 2 trap or brake horses, 1 draught horse, dairy cows, &c., &c. A charge of one shilling is to be made for admission to the Park Oval on Thursday on the occasion of the football match Hawke's Bay v Wairarapa. This is done in order to pay the travelling expenses of the visiting team. The following is the comparative rainfall registered at Otahuao for the past month:—June, 1891, 1.75 inohes on eight days; June, 1890, 2.44 inohes on twelvo days ; June, 1889, 5.20 inches on twentyntwo days. It will thus be seen ,that the month of June has this year been much drier than usual. A hunt of a novel character was witnessed in Masterton at an early hour on Sunday morning, A number of lively sports, stimulated by a not over small amount of English stout and bivalves, bethought themselves to have a joke. After an exciting chase the hound returned to his kennel with something in his mouth very mach resembling a pair of braces. The hound has since been suffering from an attack of indigestion.

The Alfredton Riding in the '- ",.■ rapa North County having been divided ' into two ridings, the seats for the Alfredcon Ridinr have been deolared vacant, and an election of representatives of the Alfredton and Eketahuna Ridings respectively will be held on- '• July 14th. The remains of the late Annie Gordon, who died at Te Whiti on Sunday, were interred in the Masterton cemetery this afternoon, a large number of settlers payms, a last tribute of respect to the deceased. -MBf , A new industry is about to be started' in Foxton in the shape of a manufactory. A representative of a \ Dunedin firm has been in Foxton for the, past week arranging matters, and a site -' has been seleoted in the bend on Messrs Robinson Bros.' property on the road to Wirokino.
