CHIRSTCHURCH CADS.

The Christchurch Press, which some time ago devoted a leading article to some scathing comments on the characteristics of the girls of that city, now follows it up with one dealing with the foibles and inanities of Christchurcb young men. From this reliable authority we learu that they are not capable of great virtues or great vices. They do not gamble or drink to any alarming extent, and they are tolerably clean in their language. Mediocrity is apparently their leading characteristic. Their economy borders on' parsimoniousness. In society they are pronounced snobs and unmannerly cubs. .They affect an unutterable contempt for everything colonial. They would rather die of thirst in -the desert otSahara than drink a glass of colonial beer. They prefer tbe fiery and adulterated wine of Europe to the light and wholesome wines of Australia; They pine to go to London so that they may be measured by a London tailor, and for ever after they eschew Colonial tweeds, and will encase themselves in any- shoddy material, if only the English; Colonial boots are to them an-aboniination. As to taking an interest in colonial politics, they are far above that, though on the other hand, they know about as little ot English politics as the average English ploughman. On the whole the ■* Cbristenurch young ma% as depicted by the local critic, seems to be an illmannered, conceited; and ignorant cad.-;-'r, ;,v vy ™?.
