A MYSTERIOUS DEATH.

Apoplexy or Poison-

The following details are. reported io the Melbourm newspapers:—A few weeks ago,. Louisa Wjebb,; a coloured woman, residing at Gwynne street, South Richmond, was found by the police there, lying in a-state of semi-unconsciousness. She was" removed to the hospital wheie she remained about a fortnight, when she died. The Btory which Bhe told the police concerning her illness is : a remarkable one. She said * that two women entered her house and gave her a drink which rapidly stupefied her, and, while she was sinking info: insensibility .robbed her of £i or £5 and left the house. She remained unconscious, so she said, for six days, and was .just recovering when : the police found her. The police placed Ino credence in her story, but as Mrs J Webb gave a; description of the two women, warrants were issued for them and search has been made since but no trace of them could be discovered. When the woman was brought to tne Hospital Dr Soileux found traces of irritant poisoning: about her mouth and throat, and two or three days after her admisson she developed symptoms of apoplexy, became unconscious and died. The death was reported to the City Cordtier, Dr."Soul, and ho directed that a post mortem examination should bo held. This was done, and it was found that apoplexy was the cause of death. There were no traces of poison in the stomach but the mouth and throat were burned as though by poison,
