FOOTBALL CLUB'S BALL.

: The Masterton Football Club's annual ball, which bas now become quite an important winter fixture here, and has been eagerly looked forward to for some time past, was held last night in tbe Drill Hall under very favorable circumstances. The Hall wbb tastefully decorated with abundance of flags an 1 evergreens, the initial letters M.P.O. being worked in ferns on one side of the wall, while in the centre an artistic and cleverly arranged bower was fitted up for the band. On the .wall nearest the supper room two pictures representing old English Football, (kindly lent by Mr D. Jackson) wore much admired. Despite the somewhat threatening appearance of the weather it continued fine, and cold, and this fact doubtless accounted for the presence of a large number of ladies and gentlemen from the outlying portions of the district. A number of visitors were also present from Wellington. The floor was in very good condition, and with' excellent music.those.present could not fail; to enjoy, them-, selves. At midnight, the first half of the programme having been gone through, supper was announced, and this portion of the entertainment quite came up to the rest of the turn out in point of excellence. Dancing was kept up with spirit until shortly after 2 p.m, when, after a really enjoyable" time, the gathering broke up. . It is only fair to state that the success of tbe ball is, in a great measure, due to the untiring efforts of Mr Charles Ferry, the indefatigable secretary.
