Lord Salisbury, referring to Sir John Macdonald, in the Houee of Lords, declared him to be as great a statesman as any nation has seen. The Behriog Sea fisheries Suspend sion Bill has passed the House o Lords.
In the House of Commons to-day, Sir W. Hart Dyke, *M.P. for Dartford, introduced a Bill providing for an extra capitation grant of 10s on all children between the age of 5 and 14 years on average attendance at elementary schools, the effect of which will be to give absolutely free education to two thirds of the children of England and Wales. The Bill was well received, and will probably be read a second time and then shelved till next session. FOREIGN.

During the revolution in Hayti 150 persons were executed. Ottawa, June 9. The Canadian Parliament has decreed Sir J. Macdonald a State funeral. At Kingston the proceedings were of an impressive and memorable character. The Queen has expressed deep sorrow at the Premier's death. The Canadian House of Commons was draped. in black, and a vote deploring the late Premier's death was passed. Sir John Macdonald's remains will lie in state until Thursday.
