The Marquis of Salisbury has agreed to receive a deputation from the Imperial Federation League on the 17th inst, who will urge on the Prime Minister the necessity of calling together delegates from the various colonies to consider the best means to secure an effective share of the privileges and responsibilities of the Empire.
The grain crop in Eastern Europe are in a bad condition owing to drought. In Greece, however, they are looking very well, and a splendid yield is anticipated. The illness of Sir John Macdonald causes intense excitement in Canada.There is also a good deal of anxiety felt in England, and Her Majesty the Queen receives hourly bulletins as to the Premier's health.
At the Royal Military Tournament to day, lieutenant Bow, Melbourne, and Captain M'Leish, Yea, members of the Victorian Mounted .Rifles, took second and third prizes respectively in the officers' riding and jumping competition.
Three hundred and seventy-four deaths from influenza were recorded in London last week.
The delegates from Newfoundland are assisting Lord Knutsford to prepare a measure in which it is proposed to deal with the vexed question of fisheries in that colony in a permanent manner.
The Government has protested against the threat made by the French Admiral to seize boats supplying bait to American fishermen in St George's Bay, Newfoundland. The Irish Census returns show a decrease in the population of half a million in the last decade.

The ransom demanded for the release of the English and German tourists will be forwarded on release of the captives. The Turkish Government has ordered troops to pursue the brigands. Cairo, June 2. A locust plague is visiting the Delta and other parts of Egypt. Stringent measures are beirg taken to remove it.
Suez, June 2
The Australian torpedo gun boat Boomerang has arrived here, en route for Australia.
Ottawa, June 8.
There is a slight improvement in the condition of Sir John Macdonald to-day, but he is gradually losing strength.
Pretoria, June 2.
The " trekking" expedition of Boers to Mashonaland left here to-day, despite the protests of President Kruger.

Courtes has referred the AngloPortuguese Convention to a committee. It is expected it will be passed,
Port-au-Prince, June 2,
The rebels who took part in the recent revolt to depose the President have been executed. Calcutta, June 2.
The trial of the Jubraj, or heir apparent (Kula handi-a Singh), for participation in the late revolt at Manipur, is proceeding. A Tongal General alleges that the Jubraj was not present, when the execution of British officers was ordered, and he blained the Senaputi for the massacre. Buenos AyrEs, June 2.
A general run on the Argentine banks has taken place, and the Btreeta are crowded with excited people.

Owing to the illness of the Queen, Prince David haa been recalled to Honolulu.
