attendance, and apologies were received from the Ministers for Public Works and Lands, Sir R. Stout and a number of others. Mr T. Duncan, M.H.K., was present and delivered a short address. Mr Steward spoke at some length, and paid a high tribute to Sir Maurice O'Korke, the late Speaker. He constitution and operations of the present Miaistr y and hoped the people would do their best to keep a Liberal Government in power, and then assist in settling the bone and sinew of the country, instead of driving it to other countries. He anticipated no difficulty in keeping order in the House from the number of labour members, and from what he had seen last session anticipated that any disorder which might arise would be from some of the elder members, but he trusted all would work together and maintain the reputation the New Zealand House of Representatives had for good order. His ption was most enthusiastic. A, Purse of Sovereigns.

Mr T. Duncan, M.H.R., was presented with a purse of 150 sovereigns to-night, in the public Hall. There was a crowded attendance, and Mr W. J. Steward, Speaker of the House, occupied the chair. The presentation was made by Mr Neil Fleming. Messrs Seddon and McKenzie were also present, and addressed the meeting. Th e proceedings were most and the speakers were heartily re ceived.
