COMMITTEE MEETINGS.

A special meeting of the Worls Committee of the Masterton Borough Council was held last evening. Present:—Crs Heron (Chairman;, E. Chamberlain, Gapper, Hessey,and A. Mutrie.

" Tbe.Chairman and'Cr Gapper were appointed to inspect the Albert-street footpath near Mr Payne's residence, and instruct the Overseer what repairs are required. It was iesolved tohave specifications prepared and tenders called for the work of strengthening and repairing the Waipoua Bridge. The Committee decided to inspect the Lincoln Eoad footpath on Wednesday next, athalf-past three-p.m., to see what steps could be taken to abate'the nuisance caused by the water, and also to report upon the alleged encroachment of properties on the road. *..., It was resolved to recommend that a concrete cylinder culvert be inserted near the Royal Hotel, and that tenders be called for the labour only. A sub-committee was appointed to report upon the offer of Messrs Lowes and"fbxnsof a-section for a gravel reserve in River Boad.

The request of Mr Sillars for permission to fence on the angle fronting his property in ' Bentley street was acceded to. ;

At a •meeting of the Fire 'Brigade Committee also held .there, werepresent Grs Feist (inthechair), Perry and T.Dixon.

The" -Fire Brigade report was read and Captain Pickering explained that it was impossible to repair the leather hose, and he bad therefore cut one length into two short lengths. He£ desired two couplings to connect them. Re. uniforms, Captain Pickering suggested the establishment of a uniform and; plant fond. : : The cost of uniforms would be £3 5s each. He explained that the grant already; made was expended in attendances, association and incidental expenses, leaying nothing for other purposes. Several members were entitled to medals, which would cost £1 U each.—lt was resolved to recommend, if the Finance Committee can find the funds, that the reqttest of the Fire Brigade for assist ance be acceded to.

The Library Committee recommended that certain new books be procured and that certain other books be passed in. It was recommended that a tank be procured for water.
