HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

39he annual meeting of the Masterton Horticultural and Industrial Society was held at the Central Chambers last ( JTriday) night. The chair] was occupied by the President, Mr W. G. Beard. The report and balance-sheet were, read and adopted, the latter showing a deficiency of £ll 2s 2d. The total receipts amounted to £92 2s 6d, whilst the expenditure was £92 19s j Bd, of which £6O 17s was prize money; i The deficiency consisted of a few outstanding accounts. The report was read as follows : Yoofcjpommittee, in presenting then report for 1890-91, regret that the; have again to show a deficiency tha amounts to £ll2s "2d. This coi tinned deficiency renders' it necessai that the Society should either reduc the prize money or the general e: penditure. . The latter having bee kept as low as possible, you Committee recommend to the incoming Committee that a catalogue on a modified scale should be prepared for the next season. This is done at almost all the shows in the Colony. The interest taken by the people of Masterton in the Society's prcvSeanigs during the past year has been much greater ..than hitherto, notwithstanding the fact that the subscriptions show a falling off. The shows for the season just concluded have been superior to any previous horticultural exhibitions held in Masterton, and this fact makes it apparent that your Society is growing in favour with all classes. Your Committee tender to those persons who assisted them with special prizes their best thanks.—Wm. G. Beard, President. Irfce election of officers resulted as follows:—President, W. G. Beard; Vice President, J. C.Alpasa; Secretary, "W. B. Chennells; Committee— Messrs Rawson, J. Berriman, Broom, P, Murray, T. Dixon, J. Fitzgerald, J. McSorlsy, J. Stone, senr, Parker, F, H. Suttcn, E. Collotte, Gardner, T. CressweU and J. Symes. A vote of thanks was passed to the auditor (Mr Easthope) with a request that he continue the office. A Bub»committee was appointed to revise the catalogue and report to a future meeting. . ■ ■ . , It was.: resolved that the Society hold a Chrysanthemum Show next autafflan. The meeting then adjourned.
