HAND AND GLOVE.
A crowded house greeted the reopening of the Theatre Royal last evening under the new; management, and the production of "Hand and Glove" by the Masterton amateurs was a great success. Prior to the commencement of the performance the scenery recently painted by Mr E. Briggs was exhibited, and waß favorably commented upon by ally the drop scene being particularly admired, The caste of characters in "Hand and Glove" \yas very atrong,|and considering the short period during which it has been under rehearsal, was thoroughly well profluppd. We regret that the space at our disposal precludes our giving a more than brief notice to the performance. The acting of Miss Bosie Beaufort as Lady Lexboro was perfect, the pharapter being ppurtrayed Ja capital style." Mies'Violet Sntythspn, who made her debut on this • occasion, quite captivated the audience,' her acting, being wonderfully .charming and her manner pleasing. 'There" is little doubt but that in time she will be a theatrical star. The; inter, pretation of the remaining characters Wfta very faithful, although a little nervousness was noticeable. Mr J. Barnard, as Colonel Baven. acted his. part with great care and "skill, and was a capital villain, whilst Mr 0; A, Pownall and Mr Harry Sistnur, as Hand and Glove/respectively;' were very successful. Mrs O'Connor, as JuditliHaxvyell, and Miss Qokende'n, as Fanny Egerton, took ' tjieir parts well, and Messrs Hooper and Hicksoti filled thg -minors-parts creditably, Altogether a credit to Mr Barnard, unaer whpse supervision it was produced, and 'tp the individual performers. The proceedings were enlivened by musical selections, rendered by Keiseuberg's "string band, .'
