ROAD BOARD.
The ordiuary monthly' meeting of tbe Eketahuni Road Board was held on Saturday, 28rd May, at 7 p.m. Present —Messrs Matheson (chair* man), Neilson, Anderson, Dowsett, and Parsons. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. From Survey Department, acknowledging receipt and approving certain plans. From Clerk Wairarapa North County Council, asking the Board to forward its financial returns. From the Bank of New Zealand, acknowledging receipt of monies! forwarded. \
From F. McAnulty, asking to be allowed to erect a gate on the road leading Jig his property at Parkville. I—permjP3ioij 1 —permjP3ioij 'granted, . providing neighbors do not objept. Froni W. Bayliss, asking the Board to fell a road line adjoining his property.—Granted. From It. E. Hornblow, asking, for the Board's printing, on the ground that the papers got -the advertising for which he" could not compete.— Mr F. Dowsett pointed out to the Board that they had to rely on the newspapers for all their reports, and therefore the papers deserved theii support. Mr Hornblow had no claim whatever on them. It was only fair that the papers should have their printing.—lt was then unanimously resolved that Mr|Hornblow's offer be flfcgli'nefj, and that the Board's printing be equally divided between the Daily and the Mail.

Claridge, asking for a r.Qad from his section to the tipn" soad ; oyer tfll Friday nest, The following resolution was moved by Mr F. Dowsett, seconded by Mr Alex. Anderson: "That the Eketahuna Road Board apply to the Minister of Lauds, asking him if he has given any consideration to the reauest made to him when in Eketahuna,"viz.',: tha making pf roads in the district, one leading to Mr Baker's, one leading through Totara Block in Wellington Special Settlement Block,ahd'the Makakahi road.'
From Commissioner of Crown L&nis, sending voucher for £146. 5s 7d deferred payments, From General purvey office slating that the sum of £4O was all thai the Government could see their way to grant towards the cost of erection of a bridge over the Mangararama creek. The grant would also, be subject to certain conditions. Resolved tp instruct the engineer to ascertain the cost of a bndge, A petition from the residents of the Hairera road praying for a suspension bridgeover the Makakotu was granted.
Tenders. Only one' tender was received for the completion of Dixon's contract (Hutt 8 S)^the same being declined. Resolved that fresh tenders be called. It was decided to give twenty-one' days to all defaulting ratepayers. Decided to hold a special meeting on Friday next-at 2 p.m. to allocate thirds. Mr Matheson moved that a previous resolution authorising a drain in Ballance St., Newman, be rescinded as there was absolutely no funds.— Carried. Accounts. Owing to the absence of the engineer's no progress payments were made as the Board had no certificate from him. The meeting then adjourned, after deciding that during-, the winter months the-ordinary meetings be held at 2 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. Mestortoa Road Board* The ordinary monthly meeting of the Masterton Boad Board was held on Saturday last, there being present Messrs W. H. Beetham (Chairman), M'Leod, M'Kenzie", and Wardell. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, correspondence outwards and inwards was read and dealt with. The Clerk was instructed to take steps to raise a £BOO loan for the formation of a road through Falconer's.
Mr 11. W. Jackson drew the attention of the Board to the water being taken under the road leading through his property.':—After. Borne discussion- it was decided that the culvert referred to was neceessaryto the drainage of the road, and if the proprietors of the swamp have turned the water into Mr Jackson's land to his detnment, he must seek redress from the owner or occupier of the swamp.
Mr G. H. Welch complained of the state of the Kohukutu road, and it was resolved that the necessary work be undertaken at once to place it in repair.
Mr Stuckey attended and; gave an explanation regarding the gates on his property.—lt was decided that m addition to the two gates authorised at last meeting Mr Stuckey fee granted permission to maintain two more gates for a period of six months.
Mr Colin M'Lachlan communicated with the Board, and stated that as he gave the land for a road through his property, the Board should grant him the necessary wire if they wished it fenced.—lt was decided that Mr M'Lachlan be informed that-the Board is not in a position to make him a grant of wire. Mr EL. Jensen complained that the water bad] overflowed across the road in two places at Upper : OpAkiy and wished the road defined through Elkim* property.—The matters were referred to the Engineer. It was resolved that,. Mr, I>. M'Lachlan be urged to complete the fencing of the road for. which. * the Board granted wire, as there were complaints about his cattle encroaching on the road. It was resolved thac a sum not exceeding £BO be expended eut of thirds in making passable the road through Stuckey's flat. The Clerk was instructed to take the necessary steps for raising; a £ISOO loan for Northcroft's road. '- An extension of time for one month waagranted Mr Carr for the completion of his contract. Messrs HendersooandCo. applied for six months in which to contnbute one half of the cost of repairs to the Fernridge road.—lt was ) resolved that.the application 'for a further period of three months be granted. ; It was resolved that; the .'Board concurs in' the proposal of "the Wairarapa North County. Council and agrees to avail themselves of: the services of the Engineer whenever necessary, on the understanding .that the services of the Overseer,' whieh; it is understood the Council is employing are used when practicable. The- report of the Finance 5 Committee was read and adopted, and accounts amounting to £865 SslOd passed for payment. ' ' The report of the Engineer was read and adopted, '] ;-. ':' A special order was made, striking a speoial rate for the Kaka-amu Valley road loan.
It was decided that; it be an instruction to the Clerk, to prepare a schedule of expenditure for the year ending Slat March, 1892.
It was resolved that the Board strike a rate of 7-16'ths of a penny id the£ for the year ended 81st March, 1892. ■' ■ v '■/■ ;*■;
The Chairman moved in accordance ! with notice given, that the resolution of the Board of the Mastertoiv Road District, passed on. the. 4th April, adopting conditionally the Otahuao route for a road to the East Coast be rescinded. ' : -' Mr Wardell seconded pxo.fyfn\a." After some discussion it was decided that the further consideration of the matter be held over; till the nest monthly meeting of the Board, and that members be specially requested'to attend on that occasion. The meeting then adjourned.
