GREYICWN 2*n> V. RED STAB 2ND. The junior cup match between the Greytown and Red Star second fifteens was fought oat on the Park Oval on Saturday last, and although . the weather was miserable, a great . crowd assembled to witness the contest. The Greytown Club sent a ] very strong team up to do battle for j them, and as far as appearances went on the field it was thought they would have rather an easy victory, ' But soon after the play commenced ' this forethought vanished, as the Stars, playing straight against a < heavy wind, more than held their < own. During the process of the game, although brilliant play, owing ' to the greasy state of the ball, was 1 at a discount, exciting times were prevalent, each goal-line being in- 1 vaded in quick succession. At the latter end of the first spell, Dockery ] made the only score for the Greytown team by potting a pretty goal from ' the field. In the second spell, the excitement among the spectators ran high, and it was with the greatest difficulty that some of the enthusi- ■■ asts were stopped from taking part in the match themselves. Both teams were represented by an unusual number of " barrackers," and one of the umpires came in for a very severe reprimanding at their hands, when his decisions did not suit the popular taste. In this spell Renall scored for his team after a plucky maul, but Green failed to convert it. Soon after the Stars were awarded a free kick in front of the Greytown posts, and H. Welch placed it over the bar, thus making the scores even—three points each. Play for the remainder of the spell was very even, the ball never being out of neutral ground. At the finish, cheers were exchanged, and the game declared a draw. In respect to the individual players, Tate (captain) was far and away the best back on the field, he playing with such tact and smartness seldom seen in Junior matches, ttees and Udy (backs) and Beard and Tai (forwards) were also • conspicuous. The back team of the 1 Stars was weak, Campbell and Galloway being.the only ones with j i any "go." Their forwards, how- • ever, almost to a man worked with • considerable dash, Collier, Percy and ' Butement especially. Messrs A. L. ; Webster and T. Hudson umpired, and Mr Beauchamp proved a very impartial referee.
The senior Cup match, Masterton versus Te Ore Ore, was not played on Saturday. The team of the former put in an appearance, and went through the form of kicking off, and scoring. The match will therefore be declared in their favor.

On Monday, tlie 25th, the tf aster - ton Club will play thej Wellington Club on the Worksop road gronnc 1 ; the Ked Stars play the Melrose Club on the Park Oval; the second of the Stars play the Whareama Club at Tenui ; and the.Greytown Club plays the Athletics in Wellington.
We understand that the two senior matches to be played in Masterton on tho Qiioen'a' Birthday— Melrose versus Red Stars and Wellington versus Masterton —will take place at the same hour on the respective grounds, thus debaring the football community from witnessing both games. We think some arrangement should be made between the Clubs wherebythe matches could take place on the same ground at different intervals, as it is very seldom we have the privilege of seeing such renowned exponents of the game as the members of the Wellington and Melrose Clubs.
At Newtown on Saturday the Wellingtons defeated the Athletics by 2 points to nil for the championship. The Peione Club won their match with the Melrose by five points to nil.
