At a meeting of the Rugby Union, a resolution was paßsed unanimously, that in the opinion of the Union '?' smoke concerts after football matches are in many respeots undesirable, and in no way advantageous to footballers, and that members be requested to refrain from taking part in any festival of the kind whenever it can be avoided. The Union is sending this to other Unions in the hope that it will be adopted. The Australia lUisißg. Gisborne, Saturday. The Union Co.'s steamer Australia left Auckland on Tuesday evenings ; and Tauranga at 1 p.m. ou day. She has not since been heard of. It is thought she may have taken shelter near the East Cape, but anxiety is felt for her Bafety. Later, The Australia arrived all safe at 1 p.m. Siath of Mr. &. P. Plow*. Auckland, May 1 7 Mr, Gi P. Pierce, general manager of the New Zealand Insurance Oomn pany, died suddenly this afternoon Waikomiti Cemetery. No particulars are obtainable.' Lateb. Mr. Pierce went out with Mr*. Pierce to Waikomiti by train, and they strolled about the cemetery for some time. They were walking back to the train to return to town when Mr. Pierce moaned and fell dead. The body was brought to town by the train. The cause of death is belie* ved to he heart disease. Mr. Pierce seemed to be in good health in tho I morning and attended Bervice in St. Sepnlohre'a Churoh. His death is. greatly regretted, as he was highly I esteemed.
