CORRESPONDENCE.
Licenpipg Section, (To the Editor.) gin, Considerable agitation is going on over the forthcoming licensing election and local option poll, The publicans are on the warpath, sticking up all and asking for their votes. Their contention is that four hotels are not sufficient to meet the swilling capacities of the inhabitants of the district, hence they require another hotel, this time at Hawera. Yes, sir, they endeavour to show that five hotels to a population of 322 is not sufficient. It has always been a matter of surprise to me that the Newman people have not gone in for a pub, They have sufficient population (judging by Eketahuna) to maintain one. Then again, there is Parkville, with a population of about 150. They should maintain two. I hear that two or three prohibitionists are coming forward as candidates. If that is so I trust the settlers of Eketahuna will vote for them, and by so doing show to the New Zealand public that we are not a community of drunkards. I am, etc., A Prohibitionist, Eketahuna, Slay 18.
