Oamaru, May 11, William Falconer, an old and muoh jpspected settler, was killed this morning. He waß bringing a load of wheat into town, and when coming down the hill just outside the town, the wheel of the dray cutting into an embankment slewed the shaft round, and knooked Falconer down, the dray passing over his chest, and killing him almost instsntaneously. The deceased had resided in the district for ffli years, and had taken an active part uF local and general politics. He waß a member of varioua local bodies.' Reefton, May 11. One of the early pioneers of the West Coast, Mr Ralph Dawson, was seriously burnt on Saturday by falling into the fireplace whilst in an apoplectic fit. When found, after one of bit neighbours had been direoted to the place by the groans of the sufferer, he had recovered from hU fit, but was rendered helpless by the frightful injuries ho had sustained. Medical aid was at once procured, and he waa taken to the Hospital, where Dr Whitton attended and administered all possible relief. / The injuries were of ouch a serious nature that the doctor pronounced the case hopeless, w and he died at 7.80. a.m. on Sunday, At the inquest held this afternoon, the jury returned a vardict that deceased met his death consequent upon injuries received whilst in an apoplectic fit, having fallen into the tire. The deceased was a brother of Mr John Dawson, of this togn. and was much respected by twßp»rho knew him.

Auckland, May 11. A waterman named Hany Keane, while rabbit shooting at Motutapu Island, was bitten in tbo by what is believed to be the katipo spider.
