FOOTBALL.

The Seniors of the Masterton Club proceeded to Carterton on Saturday to compete for the Cup, but as the Carterton Club could not get together a team the match was declared in Masfcrtou's favor. A match was, however, played from scratch teams picked on the field, but there was not a very brilliant display of form on either side. The match between Whareama and the Cartertou second fell through. The following are the fixtures for Saturday next: —Seniors—Carterton v. Stuvs, at Carterton ; Masterton v. Te Ore Ore, at Masterton ; Grey town, a bye. Juniors—Fire Brigade v. Carterton, at Carterton; Greytown v. Stars, at Masterton ; Te Ore Ore v. Whareama, at Masterton ; Master* tou, a bye, The Imperials were defeated on Saturday by the Violets, the scores being, Violets 2 points, Imperials, 1 point. The match between the second Stars and the second, of Masterton, played on Saturday, resulted in a win for the former by six tries to love. The match was one-sided throughout, the Stars having all the best of it. The following team will represent the Senior lied Stars in their match with Carterton on Saturday next : I Pope, Igguldeu, Pelling, Hill, Hawke, Thompson, Hansen, Hudson, W, and T. Welch, Wilsone, Hoare, Morris, Remeni, 0. Percy; emergencies, Richards, Emuiett, McKenzie. Trie following team will represent the second Stars in their match with Greytown second cn Saturday :—H. Wrigley, W. Thompson, Green, F. Renall, Galloway, Boagey, Campbell, Butemeut, H. and W. Welch, Collier, Broom, Gardner, J. Percy, Caleb Ewington; emergencies, Fellingham, C. Ewington, Cotter, Owen.

The first cup matches of the season ? were played at Gveytown on Saturday between the first and se.ond fifteens of Te Ore Ore and Grey town. The senior game resulted in a win tor the home team by 22 points to nil, and the Junior in a win for Te Ore Ore by 1G points to nil. The senior match played on the recreation Reserve was very tame, the Native team playing one man short. Mr McKenzie acted as referee, and Messrs Pratt and Webster as umpires for To Ore Ore and Greytown respectively. The Greytown team was captained by Sid Nicholls, Anderson doing similar duty for Te Ore Ore. Both teams were considerably altfred. Greytown was represented by Lucena, full back ; McCarthy, A. Udy, and Brunton, three-quarters; Nicholls, Rees and Tate, halves; and Tyler, McKenzie, Ingley, C Beard, Dockery, Tulioro, Ingley and E. Udy, forwards. Greytown kicked off against the wind and soon had their opponents I in difficulties, Tuhoro scoring the first try, E Udy look the kick at goal, but failed to convert. Amos, Ingley, McCarthy, and McKenzie eac 1 : secured tries, E Udy again failing to convert two, and Tate placing two goals. Score for first spell Te Ore Ore nil, Greytown nine points. The second spell was simply iu the hands of the Greytown forwards, McKenzio scoring no less than five tries and Dockery 2. Unsuccessful kicks at goal were taken by Lucena, Bees and Udy, but Nicholls, Tate and Udy managed to place a goal each, ,

The junior match played on the Grcytown Fire Brigade's ground, although resulting in such a decisive victory for Te Ore Ore, was a hardfougbt and well-contested game. The Greytown forwards were too light for tbeir heavy opponents. The following players distinguished themselves for areytown : —M. Wood and McMaster backs, D. Udv, and Butene forwards, :he pick of Te Ore Ore lwiog Ellera ind Karaitiua.

The Athletics were defeated in Wellington on Saturday by the Ponekes by a goal and a try to two tries. The Athletics had the best of the game throughout.
