ENGLISHLONDON, May 7. Mr Musgrove, latsly of the firm of Williamson, Garnar, and Musgrove, who is nowin England, has succeeded in reconciling the difference between Mr Collier, the musican, and Mr W. S. Gilbert. Collier is now composing the music for Gilbert's latest opera, which will be produced at the Lyric Theatre in September. The Agents-General have been instructed to apply for two votes to each colony at the meeting of the Postal Union delegates, but Lhey are not likely to obtain them. The Newfoundland delegates are indignant at Lord Knutsford publishing information, which, so they contend, places them in an unbecoming position. May 8. Judge Smith has written to the Speaker announcing the sentence on Captain Verney. Mr Goschen on Tuesday moves his expulsion from the House. The Russian Government threatens to withdraw its gold credit from London and Paris, but if they do so the Rothcbilds will collect sufficient bullion to replace the amount with drawn. Mr Parnell declines his opponents' proposals for arbitration regarding the Paris funds. A good many lioldere of New South Wales bonds are applying to be allowed to convert them on terms agreed upon. Thirty members of the House of Commons are down with influenza. It is stated that Mr Justice Butt lia3 resigned. The Baptists' Union is trying to arrange for Dr J. Clifford, M.A., of Westbourne Park chapel, to visit Australia in the interests of the church.
FOREIGN. Montreal, May 8. The Parnellite delegates met with an enthusiastic reception at Montreal. The horses were taken out of their carriages, which their partisans dragged in triumph through the streets. Valparaiso, May 8. £n attempt was made to assassinate the members of the Chilian Cabinet with a bomb, but it did not succeed. President Balmaceda refuses the terms proposed by the insurgents. Washington, May 7. The Grand Jury of Louisiana ignored the Italian Consul's report on the personal history of the men who were lynched ; and the Consul intends to send it to Home. It is expected serious complications will arise in consequence of the refusal of the Grand Jury to indict the lynchers or take notice of the report.
