ALLEGED ARSON.
Evidence in tbe charge of arsou against Harry M'lnnes, alias Morley, was continued iu tbe R.VI. Cour* yesterday before Colonel Itoberts, B.M. The same witnesses were called as in tbe case of larceny, each being cross examined at length by Mr Pownall.
Constable Roche deposed to the circumstances of the fire and the confession of the accused.
Sergt. Hannan stated that lie had laid the information against the accused on certain presumptions contained in the documents in his possession. He did not consider he had sufficient to justify him in ar« resting Trapp. Although he arrested him on presumption, he believed there was a better case against the accused than against Trapp. This concluded the evidence for the prosecution. For the defence Mr Pownall stated that it must be quite clear that Mr Trapp had laid the trap for the accused, aud with a very convenient toothache had absented himself whilst the work of arson was being undertaken by another. He did not con* sider it a case upon which His Worship could adjudicate and therefore would reserve the defence for the Supreme Court. The accused was then committed to take his trial at the nsxt sittings of the Wellington Supreme Court.
