EDUCATION BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Education Board was held at Wellington yesterday morning, the members present being Messrs J. R. Blair (chairman),J. Young,W C Buchanan, G Beetham, F H Eraser the, Mayor (A \V Brown), Dr A K Newman, and the Rev J Pater son.

The Chairman stated that the paysheet amounted to £3845 6s 2d. This amount was passed for payment. Dr Laishley, of Auckland, wrote, forwarding 9 copies of his essays on education. It was decided to thank Dr Laishloy for his communication. Edward Samuel, of Clyde Quay, was granted leave of absence, as required, audit was decided to allow him three months' pay,

Petitions for schools at Mitchelltown and Makakahi were considered, and it was decided to grant the request in the latter instance, and the Chairman and Messrs Brown and Fraser were appointed a committee to deal with thn former.

Mr H Sanson, pupil teacher af Mauriceville, was granted a special allowance for lodgings.

The Chairman was instructed to take the necessary steps for the erection of a School at Kaitawa.

Mr Lee, inspeotor, reported that repairs were necessary to the teacher's residence at Kaitoke. It was decided to call for tenders for repairs.

Tenders were also ordered to be called for repairs to the teacher's residence at Mangaone. It was deoided to offer a sum per annum for the use of the public hall at Newman for an infant school.

Instructions were given for the calling of tenders for the erection of a school at Whakataki.

The question of fencing the school ground tit Mangatainoko was left in the hands of the chairman, it being understood that only a portion of the land would be fenced.

The application for increased accommodation at the Pahiatut School was granted, and an application from the Eket&huna School for financial assistance was allowed to stand over.

On the suggestion of Mr Fraser, it was decided to see the Minister of Education at an early date upon financial matters.

A committee was appointed on the motion of Mr Fraser to arrange for a plaj-ground for the Vogeltown School.

The Board then went into com mittee.
