MASTERTON ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Master ton Road Board was held on Saturday last. Present Messrs - Beotham (Chairman), McKenzie and McLeod. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. COHBESPONDBNCE. From County Clerk re Engineer's salary, Adjourned for a fuller meeting-

From Mr Bennett, Otahuao, olaiming £3OOO compensation for the proposed road through hia property.— Dt Hosking was in attendance, and requested the Board to take the necessary steps to acquire the land for a road through Otahuao.—The Chairman gave notioe to movfc at the next meeting of the Board to rescind the resolution paused on the 4th inst., adopting conditionally the Otahuao route. Falconer's Boad.

The Engineer was instructed to give the neoessary estimate for the work on Falconer's road, and the Olerk was instructed to write for plans of the road. Another Boad. Messrs Burnett and Pike, Te Wlnti, wrote, objeoting to the pro* posed alteration of the road through their property.unless they were compensated and'the road fenced. It was resolved that the action of the Chairman in direoting Mr Simpson to adhere to the old line of road be affirmed. Gates on Roads. Messrs Welch and Stuckey waited upon the Board with reference to gates, the latter stating that he had lot the fencing and when completed he would remove all gate 3 but two. He aaked the Board to confirm the decision arrived at at the meetinfon February 28th. It was resolved that Mr Stuckey be allowed to maintain the two gate* he referred to as being on rabbit proof fencing conditionally for a period of twelve months. Matahiwi Boad. The application of Mr J. Welch that the Engineer examine the Matahiwi road and give an estimate of the cost for repairs was granted. Ordinary.

Mr G. Welch applied payment of cost of removing "a tree from the Eohikutu road. It was resolved that the claim be paid at the rate of la per hour. . The services of the Engineer were granted on the usual terms to Messrs Wardell, M'Kenzie, Gordon and others for estimating the cost of constructing bridges over the Ruamahunga and Taueru rivors; Accounts amounting to £Bl5 100 6d were passed for payment. The Engineer's report was read. The sum of £6 was granted to Messrs Kavanagu and M'Kenzio as compensation for rook encountered ia their contraot on Ferniehurst road. The Engineer was instructed to carry out protective works ovec Bluff road. An extension of time was granted to Mr O'Sullivan. • i

Only one tender was received for the Fernridge road contraot, but being over the estimate was not accepted. It was resolved that if the En- '■* gineer can get the contraot taken up at the estimate within a week, he accept Messrs Henderson's offer, , failing which the main road only bo repaired. Messrs M'Kentrie and M'Leod were appointed to sign cheques, and Iho meeting adjourned."
