Further Retrenchment
The reductions in the TubUco Department have been finally decided upon by the Cabinet, and they will at once be put into effect. The Distriot Courts in the South) Island will be placed under one Judge instead of two as at present. Several re-arrangements and two, or three reductions of the Magistracy will be made.
The vacancy caused by the death of Mr Caleb Whiteford,R.M., atKaiapoi.j is not to be filled by an outsider, { There is to be very little retrench- 1 ment in the Education Department. Mr Reeves proposes to introduce i Bill giving the Education Departmen power to hand over Native Schools t the management of Education Boardr""***" from time to time, and upon such terms as may be agreed upon between the Department and the Boards. Wellington, Wednesday. Judge Ward will have charge of the District Courts of the South Island. Judge Broads' services will be retained in other capacities in the Nelson District.
