WINTER RECREATION
[to the editor.] Sib, —Some time ago Masterton possessed a Choral Society, a Chess Club, and a few people of a little energy. These are things of the past, and there appears to be no provision at all for the entertainment of the publio during the forthcoming winter; Would it not be possible to obtain sufficient material for the formation of a Chess and Draughts Clnb ? There' are many players in the town who would gladly join in suoh a movement, and all that is required is someone to take the iniative who can: appreciate the mental recreation to be derived V from such a source. I indite these : few lines with the hope that one of your many readers will take the hint It is, of course, quite out of the question to expect that any movement for the intelligent amusement .of people will emanate from our religious bodies, hence this appeal through your columns to those who have the interest of the rising generation at heart.—lam, etc., Beginner.
