Browny and offered for sale, were seized by the ranger of the Acclimatisation Society, who contended they were game. Browny brought a suit for restitution, and the R.M. gave judgment in his favor for £24 and costs, to bo reduced to £2. if the heads are returned in a week. A deputation of tho Chamber of Commerce interviewed tho Premier on the subject of Bills of Lading, pointing out that so many exemptions were inserted that it was almost impossible in case of damage to obtain redress. Mr Ballance thought it was a matter for tho Imperial Government to legislate upon, as the colony could not pass an Act which would affect Bills of Lad« ins; issued at Home. The Committee of the Otago branch oi the Educational Institute re N.Z; Herald's article, in reply state that many of the statements are irrelevant and without foundation. The Committee admitted that the standard course of instruction might very reasonably be altered in the direction indicated by .the members of the ~ recent deputation of the N.Z. The Minister of Defence intends to place and permanent artillery in Mr centres, under the control of officers commanding the Volunteers in the respective Districts.
