Wollington Improvements.

: Although possibly the most visible* sign of the progress of Wellington i'e to be found in the extensive and fine blooks of new warehouses and oifice shops which are being erected on the Reclamation in the Queen's Wharf, there are ot activity and enterprise to be met with in the improvements Lambton Quay is undergoing. Here, constantly, they are gradual, but still they ore steadily becoming general. The most recent to recognise the necessity of improved facilities for a large and increasing business is Mr George Mee, the leading' chemist and druggist of Wellington, who haa entered into occupation of a substan* tial and handsome building specially erected to his order on his own ground at the corner of Mason'ii Steps, a good business site, and suitable also from its position for the large town and country trade which Mr Mee does. ■'

.It iB not our intention to a very detailed-description of the: building - , but it deserves a few itrqrds of commendation ,for itsadmiirkUft adaptability fortherequiretnentV ot the business it accommodates.': It is Italian in style of architecture, of two stories, ': and possesses a fine front, the large plate glass ' windows baying ;an ! especially good appearance/ The interior of the window space, utilised for display purposes, is fitted up with' unyisu al care in dust-prcoi casing and vwith ventilating tubes abo>ve each gaß,jet so as to prevent destruction of the window's contents by too, high a temperature. The shojl itsolf is )>oth commodious and beautiful: 'lti is ' quite thirty-five .feet long, and' the counter, glass cases, cabinet draW'erSj shelving, and dispensing Bciieen present 'exceedingly > appearance, all being of handscme polished cedar, chastely decoreitcd. Just off the shop is Mr Mee'a oifice,- - which also , is- , used as •= a prirato consulting room. Directly at ; the < rear is. the laboratory, rwhere patent mixtures and . other preparations requiring. specittl . attention ; are carefully made up, among Jlhera "Mee's Emulsion of Cod Liver, /Oil," an admirable nutritive medioirje of reoognised value', and having a large sale in Wellington as the least objection-, able and most beneficial cod liver «il !. preparation to be obtained. Ijebind this again, is the drug store fov bulk goods, and still further to the rear is the acid store. Proceeding upstairs is found the patent medioine,, {perfumery, and brushware department also a superior and well fitted suit of 1 rooms, with a private entranoe and separate staircase, occupied by Mr H.' 0, Brook field,' dentist. The it holt v building is built of briok, and between the store rooms and the front apart* raents are substantial fire proof walls* Mr Mee has availed himself largely of local manufacturing, and.a fine six jet corrugated brass chandelier, efficiently made by Mr Thomas Ballinger, of Willis-street, and which forms tho . principal light of the shop, is a good example of the Btyle of work, Wellington oan turn ont. - , '

The premises generally are ahout the most convenient and finest of any ohemist's in New Zealand, and there are not many better in Australia This, added to Mr Mee's reputation for careful dispensing, aud the use of the purest drugs, as well as for keeping a superior etook of moderate priced goods,, should do muoh . t«> extend his already valuable connection.
