Councillor Gapper has given notice to move at the next meeting of the Mascerton Borough Council, " That the Town Clerk be instructed to write to the Railway Commission ers and the Wairarapa North County Council, calling their attention to the advisability of their engineers examining the works recently constructed by Mr A- W. Benall in the Waipoua river above the railway oridgc, as, in the opinion of this Council, the said works are a menace to the railway and the town of Masterton." However much the water supply may benefit the business portion of our community, and opinions differ as to the benefits—if any—derived, the residents of the borough as a whole have a right to demand the protection of the Council. If tjie information we have received is at all reliable, the incursions of the water on private property during tbß past week has assumed very serious proportions, and the ciyic fatherhood is clearly culpable if it permits such a state of things to continue. The Borough Council has no earthly right to grossly injure one portion of the community for the doubtful benefit of another.
