Eketahuna Road Board.
The usual meeting of the above Board was held in tbe Road Board office on Saturday. March 28th. Present —Messrs Matbeson (Chairman), Anderson, Dowsett, Neilson and Fogden, The minutes of tbe previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence received.—From A. R. Power, asking if the Board would lease a quarry reserve in Parkville. Resolved that the Board have no power to accede to the request. From A. Falkner, Morgan and other Wellington S.S. No 2 settlers, asking that the Board discontinue spending any more ot their thirds, as they think tbe money is being spent illegally. That the Board will be held responsible for any expenditure contrary to the wishes of the settlers, and that they intend to apply to the Supreme Court for a mandamus to compel the Board to act in accoi dance to the wishes of the settlers. The Chairman said that the letter had nothing to do with the matter in band, but they were driving towards a point. Mr Anderson: They want to dictate to the Board, They think we are a parcel of fools, but we are not.
Kesolved, that the petitioners be informed that the Board is acting in a legal manner, and that the expenditure of the loan is intrusted to them as a Board; but as it appears that tbe settlers wish tbe Board to spend no more, the Board propose to withhold calling for any more tenders at present for work on their block.
From F. King and Mckenzie, asking that a truck be cleared to give access to their sections. Resolved, that tenders be called for clearing 16 foot track in the Masterton-Hawera block, tenders to state the number of chains they will do lor £2O, the work to commence at Road Board boundary. From County Clerk, stating that the proposal to divide the Alfredton riding iuto two ridings waft postponed till next meeting. From Alfredton Road Board, asking the permission ot the Board to erect bridges on the road between Tawatai and Mangaonc Valley roads. Mr Daniel waited on the Board on behalf of Mr Lowe. After some disunion it was resolved that the Alfredton Road Board be allowed to erect bridges on tbe road, and told that if they will make the under-strncture of the big bridge of totara the Board will give £25 towards same. From County Clerk, re contractor leaving stripping in metal put on Mangaone Valley road. Left in the Engineer's bapds.
From P. Carr, stating that owing to the unfavorable weather he would be unable to finish this season, but if the weather holds up he will try and finish. Resolved, that Mr King be instructed to at once terminate the contract and call for fresh tenders if Cartfails to do satisfactory work and does not keep ten drays employed after Wednesday next. TENDERS. Metalling Mangaone Valley Koad— Anders Anderson, £2 Is Gd per chain (accepted); M. P. Britt, 43 8s 6d ; M. Kelliher, £3 3s j M. Kerrins, £i. Metalling to No. J, S.S.—Anders Anderson, &l 8s 9(1, per chain (aoceprjd) • M. Kelliher, £Z 14s; P. Mc Gill, .£6. Metalling Bawera Road—Anders Anderson. £2 Is Od per chain (accepted); M. Kelliher, £3 Us. BESOLVEU. That the County's permission be asked to widen the Alfredton road at the junction, of the Mangaone road, and that Mr King be instructed to spend £lO on improving turning. That Mr King be instructed to drain and make passable about two chains road leading to section 42 and Education Deserve, and section 40-41, and .tha.fc'Me'fcrs Moss, Myalls, Shout, and Acquith H '6e given 'permission to erect gates oV H)ad. TbatSMr King be instructed & get a drain made in Ballance street, Newman, about 14 chains, to take water off thejsaid stiedt.
That; a notice be put on Farkville swing bridge that it is ungate for traffic. Ihat Mr King be instructed to prepare the necessary plans for the transfer of the piece of section to Mr Timrpins.
