I The annual tea meeting in connection with the Maaterton Wesleyan Church was held in the schoolroom yesterday (Good Friday), and was a thorough success. The attendance of the public was much larger than usual, fully three hundred persons, including visitors from all parts of the district, sitting down at the tables, which were laden with all those delicacies so common to Methodist gatherings. The tables—five in all—were presided over by the following ladies :—Mesdames T l3ixon, R. G. Williams, R.Hornblow and the Misses Rowse, M. Perry, G. Wrigley, Pearson, Gillespie, Hoar, L. Welch, and Prentice.

The tea was followed by a public meetiug in the church, the seating accommodation for which was taxed to its utmost. The chair was occupied by Mr J. Gordon (circuit steward), the Revs R, Wood, J. Dollow, and W. Rowse being also on the platform, The Rev. J. Dollow, in a lengthy and interesting address, referred to the advance made by the Wesleyan Church in this town since his] charge of the circuit some years ago. The Rev. R. Wood followed with a recount of the pleasant experiences he hud had with the Revs Rowse and Dellow, who were now leaving the district. Having alluded to the scepticism prevailing in this town, and the disregard of the young men for holy things, he urged upon christians to lead such a life as would induce non-churohgoers to emulate their example. * , The Rev. Rowse,in au exceedingly

interesting address, gave a sketch of his recent visit to the Quoen City, introducing incideuts of a most amusing character. He also outlined the work done by the Conference, stating his complete submission to the will of those in power in the mat ing of transfers, and alluding to the impossibility of extending the term for ministerial residence.

The addresses were interspersoi 4 by musical selections from the ohoir, and a very pretty solo by the Be v. J. Dellow, the proceedings being brought to a close in the usual manner about 9.80 p.m.
