LICENSING BENCH.
The quarterly sitting of the Alfredton Licensing Bench was held on Wednesday. Present, Messrs Anderson (Chairman), Syverson and Saunders. The minutes of the previoas meetjng were read read and confirmed. The police report upon the iiiketahuna. Universal, Club, and Railway Hotels was favorable, as also upon the Alfredton accommodation house. After some discussion it was decided that Mr Parsons be requested to erect afire escape to the Eketahuna hotel to the satisfaction of the Committee at once. ' Besolved, that Mr Fellings attention be called to the state of the closets and cowshed. at the Club Hotel,
The police report stated that Sunday trading and trading after hours was being carried on at Eketahuna to a considerable degree.
The Chairman spoke very strongly j on the subject, urging that the Committee should put its foot firmly down in the mutter. Mr Syverson ; No doubt Sunday trading is carried on, but it is not easy to get a convictiou. It was resolved that in view of the report of the police the clerk write to every holder of a license in the district, stating that unless th e trading referred to is stopped the committee will deal with the matter at its next meeting. Constable Roacbe was requested to furnish a statement to next meeting, showing the number of drunks arrested, the houses they were taken from, and in which house there is the greatest amount of drunkenness. The expenditure during the quarter was reported as £1 19s. The meeting then adjourned.
