PAHIATUA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.
Distinguished visitors passed through Pahiatua on Wednesday—Mr A. W. Hogg, M.H.R, and the 4^ can pigmies. I had a run through the MastertonMangahao Special Settlement yesterday. This block siands on the Maugahao river, and is settled upon mostly by Masterton people. The township stands perhaps on the best site for such a purpose that could possibly be wished for. The road round the block frQtfi Qirdwood's to SunUw'a, whioh has hitherto been a great drawback to the settlers, is now being attended to. The settlers are of a hard-headed, thrifty class, and are making the most of a splendid piece of country allotted to them. It would be interesting to know whether the Hon John Ballance (now he is in power) will show any special sign of his favor to the township named after him. The weather having broken, the hook and insurance fiend again pursues the uneven terror of his way to> the great annoyance, (nfifc to say disgust) of eyeryone. Truly pleasure is a novelty.
